Coronavirus Deaths Decrease in Tehran after Strict Ristrictions

“The number of people infected with coronavirus has decreased somehow in the capital after imposition of the new restrictions,” Hassan Khalilabadi told FNA.

“At present, the number of coronavirus deaths has reduced 10% to 12% compared with the past few weeks,” he added.

A new round of countrywide restrictions with the purpose of slowing the spread of the coronavirus without full lockdowns has begun in Iran, as capital Tehran is imposing overnight curfews on motorists.

The fresh round of restrictions for the battle with COVID-19 came into force on Saturday.

Officials say the restrictions will be in effect until the eradication of the virus, as the coronavirus cases and deaths have reached new highs around the country.

The Iranian health ministry announced on Tuesday that 13,721 new cases of coronavirus infection have been identified across the country during the past 24 hours, adding that 483 patients have passed away during the same period.

"13,721 new patients infected with COVID-19 have been identified in the country based on confirmed diagnosis criteria during the past 24 hours,” Iranian Health Ministry Spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari said on Tuesday, and added, "2,801 patients have been hospitalized during the same time span.”

She added that the total number of COVID-19 patients has increased to 880,542.

“Unfortunately, 483 patients have lost their lives in the past 24 hours, increasing the number of the dead to 45,738," the spokeswoman noted.

Lari expressed satisfaction that 617,715 coronavirus patients have recovered or been discharged from hospitals so far.

The spokeswoman further said that 5,824 cases infected with COVID-19 are in critical conditions.

She went on to say that 5,871,098 coronavirus diagnosis tests have so far been carried out across the country.

Lari warned that 31 provinces are still marked red or in the status of alert.
